BALLROOM
One
of Night & Day band's area
of expertise is ballroom dance. In September 2002, we
initiated the Swingin' Savoy Club, a monthly dinner
dance at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Chevy Chase,
D.C.  The
Savoy Club, which continued until January 2004, was
intially geared to swing dancers, but gradually expanded
to accommodate the many ballroom dancers who attended

As
the Club became more of a ballroom dance event, we began
consulting closely with the dancers about their musical
tastes. It became clear that, in addition to swing, they
appreciated and expected a variety of dance styles, including
Latin, Waltz, Fox Trot, etc. We also learned that the
tempo of each dance style was of critical importance.
Little
by little we developed a ballroom
dance book with specific
songs for each dance category. Also included was the
proper tempo range for the various styles.
Since
then, we have played at many ballroom dances, and have
come to  appreciate
the strong relationship between the
band and the dancers. Band members tell me they love
to play at these events, and really like the way the
music energizes the dancers, and the dancers move the
music.
So,
if you’re planning a ballroom dance event, check
with Night & Day before
you make your music choice. We usually recommend our full
seven-piece group for a ballroom dance because this gives
us the widest range of instrumentation. As usual, you
will find our prices extremely reasonable.
