BIG BAND / SWING /
STANDARDS
As Duke Ellington put it,
"It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing". Night &
Day has it. We start off with an instrumental medley of big band
numbers, and move through some of our favorite swing tunes. Also included
are some romantic ballads and melodies that are perfect for ballroom dancing
(e.g. fox trots and waltzes).

OLDIES / CLASSIC ROCK /
MOTOWN
We may be
elegant and sophisticated, but Night & Day can rock! In
our larger ensembles, we feature one of the best rock and blues
guitarist/vocalists in the Washington metro area. The following samples
of a few Oldies and Motown numbers should convince you.

Johnny B. Goode |
JAZZ / SWING
INSTRUMENTAL
This is a
sample of some of our jazzy, mellow instrumental pieces. We usually draw
from the wonderful catalogue of classic "standards" ala Gershwin and Porter, as
well as from the Latin/Brazilian jazz tunes (bossas and rhumbas) that have
spark and style.

PROGRESSION OF THE MUSIC FOR A
TYPICAL EVENT
"Reading the
crowd" is one of the most important jobs for a band. The following tape
demonstrates how we might choose the music for a "typical" event. We
begin with mellow, jazzy instrumental pieces appropriate for the cocktail and
dinner phase. This is the time your guests want to converse, and the
music should set the mood without getting in the way. The tempo picks up
as the evening progresses, with more swing and big band numbers to energize
your crowd. At the peak of the party we move to oldies, Motown and
classic rock for dancing, with romantic ballads sprinkled in. As your
event draws to a close, the music has reflected the many moods of the evening.
